Outline (in English)

The objective of this course is to learn about the origins and development of European Law, legal institutions and the legal profession.
Students will be able to 1) have basic knowledge of European legal history, from ancient Rome to middle age, 2) understand/ discuss current issues of modern Japanese law from the viewpoint of European legal history.
Students are expected to complete quizzes after each lecture. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
Students will be graded on:
Final paper (50%)
Quizzes (20%)
Short essay (30%)
