Outline (in English)

This course is on prestressed concrete (“PC”) taught by the civil engineering department. It features subjects on bridge and buildings utilizing PC structure. PC structure is made up of concrete with compressive force applied and drastically improves the concept of conventional reinforced concrete by applying compression force in advance to concrete which is weak against tension. PC structure is widely adopted in bridges for social infrastructure, and contributes greatly to efficient construction and the reduction of life cycle cost. It is expected that students will greatly contribute as engineers in the future by learning the design of PC structure.
