Outline (in English)

Natural environments (topography, climate, vegetation, water circulation, and so on) around our human societies vary in each place worldwide. Their origins are reasonable in terms of science, and they have reached the present status through various global, regional, and local changes in the long history of the earth. We examine spatial variation, mechanism, and history of the present-day natural environments in the Japanese island, with in mind the relationship between natural environments and human societies (life, industry, culture, and so on).
