Outline (in English)

The purpose of this course is to help students master the basic concepts and principles of Japanese Intellectual Property Rights such as Patent Act, Utility model right Law, Design Act, Plant Variety Protection and Seed Act, Copy right Act, Trademark Act, and Unfair Competition Prevention Act. It also introduces the International Intellectual Property including several global conventions, such as Paris Convention, Berne Convention, Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and Convention, and Convention on Biological Diversity.
At the end of the course, participants are expected to understand the Japanese Law system and social phenomena from the view points of legal perspective because Japanese Civil Code, which is the most important and basic law in Japanese law system, is introduced as well.
