Outline (in English)
There are three themes of this course: 1) Development of your study skills for learning in university; 2) Learning research methods; 3) Reflection on your life and plan for your future life; and 4) Development of your English communication skills.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
この授業では主に３つのテーマについて学習します。１）大学における学習法について。２）大学における研究手法について。３）自分のこれまでの人生について内省し、将来について考察し、計画すること。４）国際語としての英語コミュニケーション能力の向上。
到達目標Goal
この授業では、まず今までのライフスタイルについて見直し、４年間の大学生活をいかに充実したものにしていくかについて考察します。
効果的な学習技能（シャドイング、要約法、動機づけ）、時間管理、健康維持、社会人としてのあり方やマナー（コンピューター、インターネットの活用法、英語や日本語によるメールやEメールの書き方、コミュニケーション能力、礼儀作法など）、またキャリアの探求について、関連資料や文献を読んだり、討論したり、自分の考えを文章に書くことなどを、実践を通して学んでいきます。
この授業を履修することで学部等のディプロマポリシーに示されたどの能力を習得することができるか（該当授業科目と学位授与方針に明示された学習成果との関連）Which item of the diploma policy will be obtained by taking this class?

英語コミュニケーション能力の向上のため基本的に授業はすべて英語で行います。ただし、文献等は日本語で書かれたものも使用します。またペアワークやグループワークを通じて共同学習を行います。より良い学習環境の構築を目指し、積極的な授業の参加が求められます。課題等に関しては個々にあるいはクラス内でフィードバックをします。

Theme for Your Term Paper
You will learn how to search literature on a theme of your study.
You will decide a theme for your term paper and select three books about the theme.
第6回：Review of Shadowing and Summarizing
Preparation for a Debate
You will review Shadowing and Summarizing.
You will learn how to debate and prepare for your debate with your team members.
第7回：Debate
Interviews
You will have a debate.
You will conduct interviews and prepare for the report.

Book Review
You will review writing strategies, such as the organization of English writing, topic sentences, supporting sentences, and thesis statement.

Lifeline Chart
How to Research
Preparation for your term paper and presentation
You will make a dream map and a lifeline chart and reflect on your life.
You will learn different types of research methodologies.
You will prepare for your term paper and presentation.

You will submit your term paper.
You will make a presentation.

You will make a presentation.
第13回：Discussion
You will discuss your favorite topics with your classmates.
第14回：Review
Self-Reflection
You will review what you learn in this semester.
You will reflect on your academic performance this semester. You will set your goals for the summer vacation.
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
You are expected:
1) to read the assigned reading before the class.
2) to look up words you don’t know in the dictionary when you read reading assignments before the class.
3) to watch or listen to an English program regularly
4) to do assignments, submit them, and meet the deadline

*If you have four absences per semester without permission, do not participate in a debate, do not make a presentation , or do not submit a term paper, you cannot get a credit for this course.

1) Although some of you may not have enough confidence in your English, your effort to learn English is important in this class. I hope that you will come to like studying English as an international language and communicate with people all over the world in English.
2) Good manners and collaborative learning are important in this class. You need to contact me when you are absent from class. You will do a lot of pair work and group work. I would like you to make a good learning community with your classmates and me.
3) Depending on the Covid-19 pandemic, some classes will be conducted online using Zoom.
