Outline (in English)

The main purpose of this course is to provide basic perspective on Japan-U.S. relationship during the Cold War era, with a special focus on the links between diplomacy and domestic politics. The following topics are to be covered: formulation of the security arrangements, amendment of the Security Treaty, Okinawa reversion, nuclear problems, and economic friction.
