Outline (in English)

This course introduces the other topics of international relations that are not covered in the Spring semester. While the International Relations A covers the theories particularly focusing on war and peace between sovereign states, so-called, traditional security issues, this course largely focuses on "non-traditional security issues". Topics, particularly, include civil wars, terrorism, and transnational organized crimes. In common with the Spring semester, the course pays particular attention to the causal mechanism and we illustrate those theories through the actual cases in history as many as possible. At the completion of this course, students will have: (1) the understanding of not just basic nature of international politics but also varieties of theory explaining interactions between states and non-state actors, (2) the analytical thinking skills to not just apply relevant theories to the actual cases and generate plausible policy implication to deal with its problem, but also find out the pitfalls of the existing theories.
