Course Objectives
To give students maximum opportunities to communicate
To build student confidence in interpersonal communication
To develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their English study at this institution.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This once a week required class for first-year students develops the range of English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high school.
到達目標Goal
To help students become more fluent in English by building their vocabulary and teaching them structures for communicative tasks such as giving opinions. The students will learn English for travel such as booking an airline ticket, making a hotel reservation, and ordering food in a restaurant.

There will be some lectures by the Instructor and interactive activities such as pair work, group work, and discusiion. There will be some individual presentation assignments. Any wriiten assignments will receive feedback by the Instructor assigning a grade. For presentations, I will give verbal feedback and assign a grade for them.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習・復習・宿題等)Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。/University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course. There will be some writing and reading assignments. There will be some individual presentations that students must prepare on their own outside of class.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Classroom participation - 40%, Midtern Exam - 30% and Final Exam - 30%
In principle, no more than three absences are allowed per semester.
