Outline (in English)
・Course outline: This course is designed to help students to acquire reading and critical thinking skills to address academic and social issues. Listening comprehension and paragraph writing tasks are also assigned to foster their ability to gather information and express their thoughts in English.
・Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will have an ability to read passages written in simple English paying attention to the main ideas, details, and contexts, so that they can read a variety of articles critically. They will acquire listening skills to understand what people are saying in everyday English.
・Learning activities outside of the classroom: Preparation for exercises in the textbook. Additional tasks will be assigned.
・Grading Criteria/Policy: In class activity 60%, Four writing assignments 40%. In principle, no more than 3 absences will be permitted per semester for the student to receive academic credit in the course.

英語で学術・社会問題を考えるのに必要なリーディング・スキルと批判的思考力を修得します。リスニングの練習もおこない、英語による情報収集力を身につけます。基礎的なライティングの技法も指導します。
到達目標Goal
学期の終わりまでに次のことができるようになるのが目標です。
・主題、細部、文脈を意識しながら基礎的な英文を読むことができる。
・幅広い話題の英文を批判的に読むことができる。
・身近な話題の英語の情報を聴き取ることができる。
