Outline (in English)
This course will be given entirely in English. Students will participate in a variety of activities that involves all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. These activities include role play dialogues, pair and group discussions, and presentations based on short reading or audio-visual materials.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This course is designed to develop language skills necessary for students to express themselves in English. The emphasis is on oral communication, and we will practice listening and speaking skills. Students will also practice writing paragraphs and short essays.
到達目標Goal
Students will develop their skills to effectively express their opinions, knowledge and experience both orally and in written form. Drawing attention to the basic paragraph structure (e.g. topic sentence, supporting sentences and concluding sentence), students will be required to learn how to write a logically organized paragraph, and then write a short essay with multiple paragraphs.
Students will learn how to effectively participate in and facilitate discussions and/or give presentations and speeches, depending on their English levels. The course will also help students acquire effective listening skills.

Note: This is a hybrid class which will meet mostly in person but some weeks on Zoom. Feedback will be provided during class and on Google classroom.

Students are expected to read ahead in the textbook and complete activities before the next class session. University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around 4 hours a week for a two-credit course and around an hour a week for a one-credit course.
