Outline (in English)
This is a mainly task-based course in which all four language skills are practiced. While in-class activities focus on listening and speaking, assignments are mostly based on reading and writing. Grammar is introduced, practiced and reviewed as part of communication-based approach to learning. The overall goal is to assist students in acquiring critical language skills to be able to communicate at a minimal, but survivable level in the English speaking world.

The ultimate goal of this course is to introduce current English to students in a practical way so that they can develop competence, and thus confidence to apply it in everyday situations.

The method is largely communicative based. Each class will have some lecture, but there will be a strong focus on student to student interaction/participation, namely speaking, in task-based activities in pairs and groups throughout the term. Weekly written, listening and speaking assignments taken from the textbook as well as occasional supplemental handouts will serve as the basis for the course. Feedback on all assignments will be provided during the class.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Evaluation criteria for the course:
Participation: 30% (including the timely completion of all assignments, reading and written)
Mini presentations, paired and small group: 30%
Unit Tests, oral dictation and vocabulary quizzes: 40%
* Please be aware that, in principle, no more than 3 absences are permitted throughout the term. A fourth absence will result in failure for the term.
