Outline (in English)
Through read-out-loud activities, students are expected to improve overall reading comprehension. Basic English grammar, vocabulary, and conversational expressions will be very helpful to communicate with each other, and at the same time essential when writing, speaking and of course listening.
Comments upon the details about the textbook, attendance rule, evaluation and so on will be made at the first class of this semester.
Attendance is mandatory, and students will be expected to attend every class and hopefully enjoy their own activities. Great joy is only earned by great exertion!
Active participation （20%）, examination （60%）, assignments （10%）, presentation （10%） will be totally evaluated.
Learning activities outside of classroom: one and a half hours.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
歴史、環境問題、文化、サイエンスなど、世界のさまざまな分野における時事問題の読解を基軸とし、国際情勢などについて自らトピックを見い出し考察することを目的とする。加えて、映像教材を通じ、日常生活のさまざまな場面における実践的英語コミュニケーション能力を養成する。
到達目標Goal
テクストの英文を通じ、英語の文法、構成、流れなどを意識しつつ、スピードを上げて読むことに慣れる。同時に、英文のキーセンテンスを瞬時に見極める能力を養う。

テクストの読解については、つねに要約すること、要点をまとめる意識をもって読んでほしい。授業ではテクストの英文の読解に加え、毎回ビデオ教材などを使用し、平易ながらも日常会話に必要とされるさまざまな表現にも触れ、リスニング、ディクテーション、スピーキング、読解などのいわゆる英語のフォー・スキルズを高めていく。
罹患者数の増、あるいは大学の方針にもとづくオンライン授業への変更の際には、各回の授業計画の変更なども含め、学習支援システムでその都度、提示いたします。

毎回の予習は絶対条件となる。地味な努力を続けることで自信をつけてもらいたい。テクストの読解については、つねに要約できる能力について意識しつつ読んでほしい。また、リスニング・スピーキングの上達には、毎日の練習が肝要である。授業中の練習に加え、教室外でも練習を行うことを心がける。課題は必ず行い、授業には全出席する。学生は、自らの可能性を信じ、真剣に授業に臨むことが要求される。準備学習・復習・宿題などに1時間半以上を期待している。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
定期試験（60％），レポート（10％），平常点（20％），プレゼンテーション（10％）それらを総合的に評価する。また、真剣に取り組む姿勢を評価したい。
平常点：出席については、基本的に全出席を原則とする。きちんと出席し、真剣に取り組む姿勢を評価したい。
学期末試験：必ず受験すること。
レポート：授業中に指示する内容にそって提出すること。
プレゼンテイション：積極的に話し、聞き、発表することを評価する。
オンラインでの開講となり成績評価の方法と基準も変更となった場合、
具体的な方法と基準に関しては、適宜、学習支援システムで提示したいと考える。
