Outline (in English)
Students will work on their communication, listening comprehension, critical thinking, and self-study skills through discussions on various topics, and weekly listening activities. Students will also practise explaining and presenting their points of view and results of their research in discussions and presentations on the topics of their choice. In addition, students will write and share opinions and reflections based on each other’s presentations.

到達目標Goal
The main aim of this course is to explore some communication strategies for explaining, sharing, and discussing information and exchanging opinions on several contemporary, thought-provoking, and useful everyday topics. Students will learn some important communication skills, build their vocabulary, and practise writing and presenting opinions, short reports, and researched information. Students will also explore several websites useful for self-study, especially for improving listening skills.

The course will combine listening to audio discussions and watching short videos and some speaking or writing practice in each class. Students will practise sharing and reporting information, clarifying and explaining, and building simple arguments for expressing their opinion on controversial topics. We will work on a variety of topics. For each topic students will be provided with vocabulary, listening, and critical questions for discussions. At the end of each topic students will research some interesting and relevant information, present it in groups, and write feedback on classmates’ presentations.

Sharing information and preparing talks based on interviews.
week 2:Speaking
Presentations based on last week’s interviews. Group discussions and feedback.
week 3:Listening and research
Topic 4: watching a short documentary and creating a list of research questions.
week 4:Presentation skills
Topic 4: organizing a short presentation based on last week's materials.
week 5:Listening and research
Topic 5: listening to online discussions and writing opinions.
week 6:Presentation skills
Topic 5: exchanging opinions and reflecting on classmates' work.
week 7:Listening and research
Topic 6: listening to online discussions and conducting additional research.
week 8:Discussion skills
Topic 6: re-telling, summarizing, and discussing.
week 9:Active learning
Selecting online listening materials and writing short reports.
week 10:Research and presentation
Research project: brainstorming topics. Mind-mapping.
week 11:Research and presentation
Research project: creating an outline.

Review of presentation skills. Final preparations for presentations.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Participation: 25%, homework assignments & projects: 50%, final project: 25%. There will be no tests: your grade will depend on your weekly work. Please note that you will not achieve a passing grade for attendance only: you will need to submit all assignments to pass.
