Outline (in English)
Students will improve their English proficiency through participation in language learning tasks such as discussing current events and topics related to business innovation, journal writing, acquiring new vocabulary and expressions, doing research, writing reports, and making short presentations. This course will provide opportunities for students to use critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills and to practice expressing their ideas and opinions in English. Students will also gain practice in presentation skills.

Using a variety of print and online media sources, students will research and examine various topics through reports, presentations, and student-led discussions. Students will select class topics related to current events and business innovation to research and will do group projects and presentations and lead small group discussions about the issues. Throughout the course, students will keep a language journal to reflect on issues discussed in class, record their ideas and opinions, and acquire and practice using new vocabulary related to class topics. Feedback on assignments will be provided during class discussion and individually during writing workshops. In lieu of a final exam, students will submit a portfolio containing their language journal, reports, group project and presentation.

Preparation outside of class will consist of researching topics of students’ choice, journal writing, reading articles, writing short reports and preparing short presentations. Guidelines and handouts for assignments will be distributed in class. Weekly preparation outside of class will take, on average, 1.5 - 2 hours.
