Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】This seminar explores the global challenges confronting developing countries and examines the responses historically implemented through international development initiatives. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the following critical areas:

- The evolution of development theories (overview) and contemporary global challenges, focussing root causes, historical responses, and persistent obstacles to resolution.
- The roles and interactions of diverse stakeholders, including their strengths, limitations and relationships in addressing global challenges in developing countries.
- Basic methods of formulating and designing projects aimed at resloving development issues.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of this seminar, students are expected to develop the following skills:
1. Analytical and logical reasoning skills: Gain an understanding of key studies on global challenges facing developing countries, while comparing the advantages and liminations of the past intervention expamples to enhance research, analysis and augumentation skills."
2. Communication and propsal skills: Improve planning, proposal-making, delivery and active listenning abilities through presentations and discussions.
3. Deep understanding and articulation skills: Attain a thorough understanding of global challenges and responses related to develping countries, enabling them to clearly explain these isseus in their own words with comfidence and clarity.

【Learning actvities outside of classroom】
- studens should read at least a few reference materials/articles to gain a multifaceted undersatnding of the agenda to be discussed in the class.
- students are expected to thoroughly prepare for the presentation, ensureing the contents of the PowerPoint slides are appropriate and organised, the presentation is clear and easy to understand, and the delivery is engaging. If needed, students are encouraged to draft a script and practice their presentation to enhance clarity and confidence.
- Students should spend an average of 2 hours each for preparing and reviewing materials for every class, five hours (or more) for preparing for each presentation and group work.

【Grading Criteria】
Final grade will be decided based on the following (25% each):
1) Understanding of the contens of the classes and the related materials/articiles
2) Level of richness/appropriateness of the PowerPoint slides (contents)
3) Level of engagement of the presentation (delivery)
4) Level of participation and contribution to the discussion
