Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports.
A purpose of Sports Medicine I is to learn the following things
1: study basic knowledge about sports injuries
2: gain practical skills ( ex. emergency treatment ) through training this lecture.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1. Basic anatomical terms can be used.
2. Can state typical names of bones, skeletal muscles, and nerves.
3. Can state typical names such as internal organs and blood vessels.
4. List the effects of sports on health promotion.
5. Explain the importance of athletes' health care.
6. Explain the causes and remedies for common medical illnesses (especially sudden death and heat stroke) during sports.
7. Explain the causes and remedies for typical medical disorders that are common during sports.
8. Explain the causes and remedies for orthopedic injuries that are common during sports activities.
9. Be able to describe how to deal with psychological stress.
10. Explain the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
11. Be able to describe appropriate procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
12. Appropriate procedures for hemostasis can be stated.
13. Explain the significance of PRICE treatment.
14. Appropriate procedures for RICE treatment can be described.
15. Can state the purpose of taping.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend two hours to understand the course content.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process term-end examination (86%), in class contribution(14%)
