Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course focuses on international organizations to explore "positive", "negative" and "cultural" peace in the Galtung's terms. It enables students to apply the Galtung's terms for explaining the conflicts and to analyze the functions of international organizations in "peace".

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1) explaining the issues or events by using the concept of "positive", "negative", "cultural" peace.
2) explaining the functions of international organizations in avoiding certain type of the violence.
3) applying the analytical methods the peace studies use for actual cases of violence.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content or to write a short essay on a given topic.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Grading will be decided based on a short essay at each class meeting (40%) and a term-end report (60%).
