Outline (in English)

During this first semester, students present - individually or in small groups - a social, cultural or historical theme on one or more countries of the French-speaking world. Each theme then continues to be studied over several sessions to allow for joint research and constructive debate among all students.
Some examples of possible themes: French-speaking areas (French-speaking Europe, French-speaking America, French-speaking Africa, overseas France, etc.); colonization; immigration; national identity and language; French-speaking popular cultures; French-speaking cinema or songs; etc.
Active participation in class is essential. Exercises or tasks will be given at each class for the next class (thorough review of vocabulary and grammar points; theme-related paper or presentation).
Depending on the tasks involved, homework preparation will range from two to four hours.
This seminar-type course prepares directly for French proficiency tests (B1 or B2 levels) or for a stay in a french-speaking university.
Grading criteria are as follows: in class contribution (40%), oral presentation (30%), final paper (30%).
