Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course Outline)】
Starting from the spring semester of 2022, this year-long course (a seminar with limited number of students or “zemi” in Japanese) will focus on positive psychology, an emerging field in psychological science that has been making remarkable contributions to conventional psychology, both in research and in practice. Positive psychology is defined as the science of well-being, and it is the only field so far that encompasses comprehensive and systematic scientific research on well-being. In addition to discussing the substantive content of positive psychology, attention will be given to enhancing students’ well-being – a way to flourish.

【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
In the spring semester, this course reviews a general discussion on positive psychology. In the fall semester, one or two major topics on positive psychology research will be selected and dealt in more depth. This year, the topic will be "subjective well-being." All the selected textbooks are based on reliable psychological research. Since right knowledge and information will further enhance the pursuit of true (authentic) learning, the goal of this course is to have students experience the genuine pleasure of getting to know positive psychology with right knowledge and information.

【授業時間外の学習(Learning Activities Outside of Classroom)】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be around two hours before and after each class meeting.

【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria/Policy)】
Students will be evaluated based on their level of understanding reflected on reports, and their participation and contribution shown in presentations and discussions through cohort work (or individual work). More details will be explained in the first lecture of each semester. There will be no exam.
