Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
This course explores the history of the British empire from the18th century through to the 21st century. It analyzes various aspects of British imperial history, considering how Britain constructed varied relationships with other regions and how the past of imperial rule has affected former colonies as well as Britain herself.
<Learning objectives>
1) Students are able acquire basic knowledge about British imperial history.
2) Students are able to acquire critical views of various global issues in reference to the history of the British Empire.
<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Students have to spend at least two hours on preparation for and review of each class respectively. They are expected to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves. They also have to work on assignments given by the instructor.
<Grading policy>
Class participation and assignments: 50% Final examination: 50%
