Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】This course is designed to allow students to gain experience in constructing research projects and giving effective presentations in Japanese. Based on the contents of Freshman Seminar I in the spring semester, students will embark on setting up challenging research topics for the presentation competition as a groupwork task. Eventually, three presentation sessions are arranged, namely in-class presentation session among classmates only, the joint presentation session in which representative groups from multiple Freshman Seminar II classes make the presentations, and the final presentation competition where all Freshman Seminar II classes get together and some of the best presentations performed by students.
【Learning Objectives】The presentation topics are usually, but not necessarily, connected to issues in the fields of community development, social welfare, or clinical psychology. Students are tasked to support their discussions and suggestions with facts and figures obtained through questionnaires, interviews, meta-analysis of previous studies, and so forth, each of which will be introduced in accordance with the progress of the course.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course contents.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】Grading will be decided based on in-class contribution (50%), and the quality of the students’ performance in the class (discussion, presentation, and report) (50%).
