Course Outline: During the spring semester we will read passages from written Japanese texts and tales, dating from ancient times until the Kamakura (early medieval) period, and study the ways in which written Japanese texts evolved.
Learning Objectives: The goal of this lecture is to grasp the variety of written Japanese by means of reading works regarded as the Japanese classics.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Students are encouraged to read as many of the works discussed in class as they can. Two hours each of preparation and revision are standard for each class.
