Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
Contract law is the study of legally enforceable promises between individuals and this course introduces students to the basic concepts of contract law so as to enable them to deal effectively with the disputes related to contracts. The principles of contract law are mostly provided in Chapter 2, Part.3 of the Japanese Civil Code, of which this course addresses Section 1 General Provisions, applicable to all types of contracts, Section 2 Gifts and Section 3 Sales, of specific contracts. Among the Topics covered are: formation (offer and acceptance), effect and termination of a contract, rights and obligations of the parties to a contract of sale, seller’s warranty in particular and enforceability of gift promises.
This course falls under all Course Models.
[Learning Objectives]
Upon completion of this course, students should have a clearer sense of how the law operates and how lawyers (courts) help to shape it in civil law practice, enhance reasoning skills in relation to complex legal problems and develop the ability to identify major contract issues which may arise in a particular factual situation.

Students are expected to read course materials that will be posted on the course website. Your required study time is at least 4 hours for each class.
