Outline (in English)

While reading typical British novels and watching the movies with them as their original, this lecture explains how realism, which is the essential element of the novel, has diversified. This lecture deals with the history of British novels from the first half of the 18th century to the middle Victorian period, and, in doing so, explains how they developed, taking special notice of the contrasts of first person and third person narratives, and realism and Gothicism. We read novels, and watch movies, practically grasp the method for interpreting them, and learn about differences in expression between novels and movies.
