Outline (in English)

This course combines theory and practice to examine the tradition of anti-intellectualism in American literature.

Students are introduced to cultural studies methods as a mode of inquiry. Examining the reactions of intellectuals, novelists, and film makers, we will expand and rethink our understandings of humor and irony in American literature.

Learning activities outside of classroom:
Before/after each class meeting, students are expected to spend 2 hours respectively to understand the course content.

Grading shall be as follows:
1) Class presentation (50%)
2) Term paper (50%)
