Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
During the upcoming fall semester, we will study Thomas Aquinas's "Summa Theologiae" and focus specifically on the idea of the simplicity of God. By carefully analyzing this passage, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of whether the concepts used to explain things in our world can also be effectively applied to God. Students have the option to use either the Latin original or the English translation for their study.
(Learning Objectives)
This course aims to develop translation and reading accuracy, logical reconstruction of arguments, and self-awareness through discussions.
Doctoral students aim to gain a deeper understanding of medieval philosophy, develop their own views, and master the relevant terminology.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
It is expected that students will read the relevant chapter from the textbook before each class meeting. The person in charge will provide a Japanese translation and will be able to explain the content. You are required to dedicate at least four hours to studying for a class.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Contents of presentation as person in charge: 70%, in-class contribution: 30%
