Outline (in English)
This course reconsiders possibilities and problems of Surrealism in the light of questions concerning the "re-enchantment" of today's urban life. Surrealism can be seen as the first great ideological movement that attempted to spiritualize and subjectivize urban life, but while its aesthetic aspect (incorporating the unconscious, dreams and chance into its production) became widely popularized, its ideological aspect (incorporating the demolishing forces of the spirit into materialistic urban life) seems to be completely disappeared. While reassessing the significance of the fact that their movement was established at a drastic historical turning point (just after the World War and the birth of psychoanalysis, and just before the establishment of mass society and ethnology), we will critically re-think the actuality of Surrealism.
At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to argument the history, contentious issues, and problems of the surrealist movement to a certain level, around the theme of the "re-enchantment" of the world.
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the designated texte. Your required study time is at least 4 hours for each class meeting.
Evaluation is based on class presentation and participation (70%) and end-of-term reports (30%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
二〇世紀最大の芸術運動、シュールレアリスムを再検討する。シュールレアリスムは、現代都市生活を精神化＝主観化しようとした最初の大規模な思想運動とみなすことができるが、その美学的側面（無意識や夢、偶然性を制作に取り入れること）が広く一般化したのに対し、思想的側面（出来事を政治化すること、精神の解体的力を都市生活に取り込むこと）の意味はほぼ見失われた。今あらためて、「世界の再魔術化」というトピックに絡めて、彼らの運動をどのように再評価できるだろうか。運動が、世界大戦と精神分析の誕生直後、大衆社会と民族学の成立直前という凄まじい時代の転換期に成立した意味をあらためて考えつつ、シュールレアリスムの可能性と問題を批評的に再考する。
到達目標Goal
・シュールレアリスム運動の歴史、争点、諸問題について、世界の「再魔術化」というテーマをめぐり、一定程度の水準で理解、論述できるようになる。
