Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
The theme of this course is indigenous people and international norms. It will enable students to critically understand the historical development and the application for the projects of international norms to protect indigenous peoples' rights in relation to not only international development cooperation but also international finance or foreign investment.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1) Explaining how the International Laws or Norms to protect the rights of the indigenous people have been developed.
2) Analyzing critically how the International Laws or Norms to protect the rights of the indigenous people have been applied for actual cases.
3) Explaining the summary of the relevant academic literatures to international laws/norms and the rights of indigenous people.



【Learning Activities】
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the assigned literature. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【Grading Criteria / Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
1) Extent of understanding about the assigned literature including the presentation based on your reading: 60%
2) Facilitating one class: 20%
3) Reaction papers after each class: 20%
