Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
In this course, we will discuss "Gender and the Body: The Road Toward Liberation" (edited by Kawamoto Reiko, 2020).
This course is designed to enhance students’ understanding of the construction and representation of bodies. Students will learn to analyze literary and cultural texts from a gender/sexuality perspective.

(Learning objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:
1) Understand concepts in gender and sexuality theory.
2) Analyze representations of the body in a wide range of media.

(Learning activities outside of the classroom)
Students are required to read the reference material by the next session (one to three hours for every session). They are also expected to be prepared to deliver presentations in class.

(Grading Criteria /Policy)
The final grade will be decided based on the following:
Involvement during discussion and presentation: 60%
Final essay: 40%
