Outline (in English)

[Course outline] This course aims at an in-depth comparative study of texts and authors from the regions including Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. [Learning objectives] Students will be expected to develop skills of critical reading of literary texts with attention to their historical and social contexts. [Learning activities outside of classroom] Before each session, students will be expected to have read the assigned materials. The required study time is at least four hours for each class session. [Grading policy] Final grade will be decided based on the following: presentation 60% and in-class contribution 40%.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

主にアジア・アフリカ・ラテンアメリカの（出身の作家による）さまざまな文学作品を精読・分析することで、文学作品が時代、社会、世界の状況にどのように応えているのかを考え、地域と言語を横断した世界文学への視座を身につける。また適宜テクストにあわせて研究論文や批評の抜粋を読み、分析の手がかりにする。

到達目標Goal

さまざまな言語で書かれた短篇・中篇小説（主に日本語訳）を精読し、歴史的・社会的文脈と関連づけて読み解く力を養うと同時に、各作品の主題、手法、表現などに注目しながら、文学テクストの分析・批評の方法を身につける。英語で書かれた作品はなるべく原書で読み、英語の読解力を伸ばすことも目指す。

指名された担当者が問題提起を含む報告をおこない、全体で討論する。その際、報告者はレジュメを作成して、担当箇所をまとめ、議論のポイントを整理しておくこと。発表担当の有無によらず、受講者全員が文献を共有し、問題意識をもって授業に臨むようにする。

「授業計画」の内容はあくまで予定であり、受講者の理解や関心にもとづいて、適宜変更する可能性がある。
