Outline (in English)

(Course Outline)
The third sector, including environmental NGOs and volunteers, which is not the government or business sector is essential to solve environmental problems in contemporary society. This class will focus on the third sector and explain the theories of social movements, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations, and their role in solving environmental problems. Students will learn how to be engaged in the process of environmental problems from the standpoint of residents and citizens.

(Learning Objectives)
Students should be able to do the followings:
- To explain the role of the third sector, including environmental NGOs and volunteers in solving environmental problems in contemporary society.
- To propose how to be engaged in the process of environmental problems from the standpoint of residents and citizens.
- To critically review previous studies on social movements, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations and propose theoretical issues.

(Learning Activities Outside of Classroom)
Students should pay attention to daily news about environmental problems and policies and collect information. Students should review the previous class based on the resumes and read references. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

(Grading Criteria/Policy)
Regular Work (15%) + Final Report (85%).
Final report will focus on critically reviewing previous studies on social movements, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations.
