Outline (in English)
Countries and regions with many thriving companies are considered wealthy, and their prosperity is evident. What factors contribute to the global expansion of companies? This seminar-style class aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of key areas in business management and associated theories. Students will analyze organizational activities within companies through this lens. Additionally, the course focuses on enhancing academic Japanese writing skills suitable for a master's degree program, including guidance on crafting a master's thesis using diverse examples. This intensive class is offered during the spring semester.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
数多くの企業が活動し、利益をあげている国や地域は、豊かな国、豊かな地域になっています。企業が世界的に活躍の場を広げていける理由は何でしょうか。この授業はセミナー形式で行い、経営管理の主要な領域とその理論について理解し、それに基づいて企業における組織活動を検討していきます。修士課程にふさわしい学術的な日本語文章力の錬成を目標にして、修士論文の書き方についても様々な例をもとに紹介します。春学期の集中授業です。
到達目標Goal
経営管理の理論研究と実証研究を理解するとともに、論文作成に必要な日本語によるロジカル・シンキングの能力を高めていきます。たとえば、以下のような課題です。リサーチ・クエスチョン（研究課題の設定）とは何か。用語の定義をいかに行うか。先行研究のサーベイとはどのような作業なのか。テキスト・クリティーク（資料批判）とは何か。仮説とはどのような言明であるのか。仮説をつくる、という作業は、どのようなプロセスを経て行うのか。実証とは何か。実証的研究には、どのような研究方法があるのか。一次データと二次データの違いは何か。データ収集の方法には、どのような方法があるのか。統計的な解析が可能なのは、どのような課題に対してか。内生性（endogeneity）とは何を意味するか。論文の結論部分には何を記載するべきか。こうした思考方法を積み上げることで修士論文の作成が可能になります。この授業では、そうした課題の基礎を理解することを目標にします。
This course aims to help students grasp both theoretical and empirical research in business management, while enhancing their logical thinking skills in Japanese for effective paper writing. Assignments include exploring key questions such as: What constitutes a research question or the framing of a research problem? How do we define terms? What's involved in a review of prior research? What is textual criticism? What role does a hypothesis play, and how is one formulated? What does "empirical" mean, and what research methods are used in empirical studies? We'll also delve into distinctions between primary and secondary data, various data collection methods, the application of statistical analysis, understanding endogeneity, and crafting impactful paper conclusions. Building on these concepts is essential for successfully completing a master's thesis. The primary goal of this class is to establish a foundational understanding of these essential topics.

授業はセミナー形式で行います。参加学生諸君は、割り当てられた課題についての「まとめ」を作成し、授業内で報告するとともに、その内容に関する疑問について議論をしていきます。そのなかで、必要なテーマについては、講義によって補っていきます。学生諸君と相談のうえ、商店街ないし会社・業界団体などを訪問し、その内容をレポートにまとめてもらいます。
The class will be conducted in a seminar format. Each student will prepare a "summary" of the assigned topic, report it to the class, and discuss questions related to its content. In the course of the seminar, necessary topics will be supplemented by lectures. After consultation with the students, they will visit shopping areas, companies, industry groups, etc., and write a report on their visit.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
授業への参加（30％）、宿題の提出（20％）、中間レポート(20％)、期末レポート（30％）によって判定します。
【Grading Methods and Criteria】
The evaluation will be based on participation in class (30%), submission of homework assignments (20%), mid-term report (20%), and the final report (30%).

Students will need a notebook and writing utensils for note-taking, an electronic dictionary with English-Japanese dictionary function or a smart phone, and a computer with access to the class support system, which will be used to inform students of class contents.

授業の一部はオンラインで開講する場合があります。この科目を履修する学生には、経営組織論、経営戦略論といった科目の履修を薦めます。レポート作成の対象、日時、訪問場所などは学生諸君と相談のうえで、いくつかの候補のなかから決定します。洞口のオフィスアワーは、木曜日昼休み、12:20～13:00、ボワソナードタワー 18階、1814 研究室です。
【Other Important Information】
Some classes may be held online. Students taking this course are recommended to take courses such as Management Organization Theory and Management Strategy Theory. The subject of the report, the date and time, and the place to visit will be decided among several candidates after consultation with students. Prof. Horaguchi's office hours are Thursday lunch break, 12:20-13:00, Boissonade Tower 18th floor, Room 1814.
