Outline (in English)

〔Course outline〕
In China, there still remains more than three hundred forms of theatres and around four hundred types of traditional performing arts. This course aims to increase students' knowledge and understanding of Chinese folk literature through appreciating and studying these performing arts.
〔Learning Objectives〕
The goals of this course are to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional performing arts and their original literary works and stagecraft. By the end of the course, students should be also able to understand the contribution of Chinese traditional performing arts as sources of popular culture.
〔Learning activities outside of the classroom〕
Before each class, students will be expected to have read the relevant article(s). Required study/preparation time will be four, or more, hours per class.
〔Grading Criteria/Policies〕
Grading will be decided based on reflection essays(80%) and an end of term report(20%).
