Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
What does it mean to be"I am what I am"?
This course aims to consider how "I am what I am" relates to the experience of body and mind, using Shogo Tanaka's text.
Is it really a matter of course that the "I" of today and the "I" of tomorrow are the same being? If you were to switch your mind and body with someone on the other side of the world, which one would you say is yourself? Or, if you suddenly lost your memory, would you be able to say that the "you here and now" with the same body is the same being as you were before? On the other hand, if you were in a serious accident and all of your body parts except for your cranial nerves were replaced by machines, would you be able to say that the "you here and now" is the same being as you were before?
Furthermore, the connection between "I am here and now," "my mind," and "my body" may not be self-evident. For example, when someone in front of you is hurt, you may feel pain as if your own body is being hurt right now. Or you may have felt as if your own body was not yourself, as if you were somehow disconnected from reality.
Who am "I" and where am "I" ? What does it mean to "live my life here and now"?
The purpose of this course is to learn about the relationship between "I," "my mind," and "my body," using the ideas of past philosophers and various thought experiments as clues.
