Outline (in English)
The course is for students interested in learning, reinforcing and extending their writing and speaking of English through reading and listening about current topical issues to expand their vocabulary and then discussing and writing about these topics.

The overall objective of the class is for students to become more confident in speaking and writing about topical issues.
本授業の目的は、学生が、時事問題についてより自信をもって話し書くことができるようになることです。
到達目標Goal
1. Students will demonstrate improved speaking, listening ,writing and reading skills.
2. Students will acquire accurate and varied vocabulary to discuss current issues.
3.Students will be able to participate actively in discussions.
4.Students will be able to organise short paragraphs to express their thinking on topical current issues.

Students will be introduced to a topical issue through a reading or listening. Vocabulary and /or grammar structures that are featured in the text will be reinforced in guided exercises, then discussion of the topic will be done in groups. Skills in academic writing and presentation will then be introduced and students will demonstrate those skills.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習・復習・宿題等)Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
Written assignments covering language covered in the course will be set and assessed according to task completion and accuracy and variety of use of target language.Preparation and practice exercises will be set to consolidate learning of target language. Work to be completed outside class will take students between one hour and ninety minutes per week.

There will be no textbook required for the class. Handout reading materials adapted from printed and online media and practice materials will be distributed.

The use of AI tools will be considered as an aid to students' writing skills by comparison with their own writing. However, the use of such tools in assignments will be considered as detrimental to students' progress in acquiring actual writing skills of their own.
学生が準備すべき機器他Equipment student needs to prepare
As materials will be in handout form, it is important that students acquire a suitable stationery item to store the handouts and keep them organised for easy reference. A notebook or equivalent to take notes, write example sentences and draft writing will also be essential.
