Outline (in English)

Course outline

Financial System Theory is a course for students new to finance to learn about specific financial systems in the context of financial theory. Starting with the basics of how finance works and functions, the course also covers recent financial trends, the Lehman shock, non-traditional monetary policy after the financial crisis, and the development of FinTech. This course aims to help students develop a broad knowledge and understanding of finance so that they can understand and explain complex concepts related to the financial system, financial transactions, monetary policy, and financial stability at a comprehensive and in-depth level.

Learning Objectives

The objectives of this course are, first, to understand and explain the financial system (the flow of funds, financial institutions, financial markets, new financial structures, etc.), second, financial transactions (time value of money, yield curves, uncertainty, information asymmetry, information incompleteness, economic functions of banks, functions of exchanges and ratings, role of public sector, etc.), third, monetary policy and financial system stability (the function of money, credit creation, money and prices, monetary policy, prudential policy) should be understood and explained.

Learning activities outside of classroom

The required home study hours outside of class are 4 hours per week (6 hours per week if the student is absent). The required study hours may be longer if the student lacks academic ability or basic knowledge of economics and finance. In terms of preparation, please read through the relevant sections of the textbook three times and summarize the essential points of the textbook in your notebook. If you have any questions, please submit them before class. For post-lesson study, re-read your notes to consolidate your understanding of the class content. If you fail to answer correctly on the in-class confirmation test, review the corresponding section of the textbook. If possible, try the practice questions in the textbook.
