Outline (in English)

【Cource Outline】In this class, we will first review the U.S. economy from a historical perspective, and then learn about two economists, Veblen and Galbraith, as reflactions of the U.S. economy. The aim of the class is to learn how our lives in Japan are affected by the U.S. economy. I will hand out the resumes during class instead of using textbooks.
【Learning Objectives】By the end of the course, you will be able to:
(A) Understand the geographical, environmental, and demographic features in the U.S.
(B) Use the knowledge gained in class as a skill to overcome the 2025 problem: the near future of Japan's aging.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】Preparation: Read the books introduced in class (30 minutes), watch news and read newspapers (1.5 hours).
Review: Find some information related to the keywords discussed in class (1 hour), and write a simple explanation about them in your own words (1 hour).
【Grading Criteria】Grading will be based on the results of the regular score (30%) and the final report (70%).
