Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
What kind of performing art is "Kabuki"? Get to know some masterpieces and learn how to enjoy them.
By learning about the characteristics of each era and touching on the materials of each work, you will acquire basic knowledge of Kabuki research.

【Learning Objectives】
1.Learn the characteristics of each period of Kabuki and understand its diversity.
2.Learn how to enjoy and savor some of Kabuki's masterpieces.
3.Learn about various Kabuki materials such as banzuke, actor reviews, and ukiyo-e prints.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students are required to read the handouts and use them for preparation and review. About 3 assignments are to be done outside of class. Before each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 1 hour to understand the course content. The standard learning and review time after each class is 3 hours.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Performance in class(reaction papers): 40%.
Short assignments (3 times): 60%.
