Outline (in English)

[Course outline] The lecture intends to provide the basic, practical, and up-to-date knowledge of medical conditions in relation to physical activity, exercise, and sports except for traumatic injuries according to the scientific evidences. The lecture consists of the following three parts; 1) physiology of adaptative responses to exercise and environmental stresses, 2) case presentation and discussion (individual or group based) of the medical conditions, and 3) pathophysiology, mechanisms, and treatment of the medical conditions.
[Learning objectives] The substantial goal of the lecture is as follows: 1) to understand physiology of homeostasis and acute and chronic adaptation to exercise and environmental stresses, 2) to obtain practical skills of logical assessment of the medical conditions and of developing individual strategy for health promotion through exercise, and 3) to be able to provide evidence-based advice to athletes and all other people in sports field.
[Learning activities outside of classroom] Students have to study and prepare for each classroom by using handout materials uploaded to the learning management system beforehand. Total hours for studying outside of classroom is estimated to be 4 hours; 2 hours beforehand and 2 hours afterward.
[Grading criteria/policy] The grading will be determined by the score of the term-end examination (100%, as a rule but please refer to the following). Participation in case discussion will be evaluated on basis of quality of opinions and attitudes of students. A quiz (“mini test”) may be provided in the classroom. The score of the discussion and quiz would be considered to determine the final score of the term-end examination. CAUTION: To take photos of any materials presented in the classroom or to record the lecture is prohibited. Students who violate this rule and take photos or record any materials presented in the classroom without permission are not allowed to take the term-end examination.
