Outline (in English)
Course outline
This course introduces students to the specific language required in various areas of sports and daily communication. Students will learn sport specific terminology and obtain a vocabulary necessary to communicate about sports on a basic level.
Learning Objectives
The main objective of this class is to help students become more comfortable with the actual use of English, especially in sport related situations. The focus is more on vocabulary and active verbal communication, rather then on grammar.
Learning activities outside of classroom
Students will be expected to do most of the work for their speeches outside of class. The homework will often be designed to help with preparing for speeches, reviewing past classes, or preparing for the next class. Approximately 1-2 hours per week.

In class contribution: 20%, Homework: 20%, Speeches: 30%, Short tests: 30%

TThe course is structured around interactive and practical learning methods, including:
Group Work: Engaging collaborative activities that promote learning through interaction and shared experiences.
Role-plays: Simulated scenarios that provide students with the opportunity to apply language skills in real-life sports communication contexts.
Speeches: Opportunities for students to articulate their thoughts and demonstrate their command of sports-related vocabulary and concepts in front of the class.
Mini-Lessons: Brief, focused sessions on essential vocabulary and grammar required for each topic, ensuring students are well-prepared for the practical components of the class.
Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Emphasis on the acquisition of sports-specific vocabulary and the essential grammar needed to communicate effectively in sports contexts.
Student-Centered Presentations: Students will select and present a sports-related theme of interest, facilitating peer learning and fostering a deeper engagement with the material.

Students will need to bring a notebook, loose paper, and a writing utensil to every class. Also, students need a Japanese-English dictionary (book or digital). Phone dictionaries will not be allowed.

Basic (N3 or higher) English knowledge is required.
この授業は英語のレベル的に高い方の受講生向けで、最大20名で行う予定である。条件を満たす人数は20名を上回る場合が抽選を行う。
