Outline (in English)
Course outline
This course is tailored to equip students with the language and terminology specifically used in various sports contexts and daily communication related to sports. Participants will gain familiarity with sport-specific vocabulary and develop the ability to communicate effectively about sports at a foundational level.
Learning Objectives
Acquire and utilize sport-specific vocabulary.
Enhance verbal communication skills in sports-related contexts.
Focus on practical language usage rather than extensive grammar instruction. Foster comfort and fluency in English within sports settings.
Learning activities outside of classroom
Independent Study: Students are expected to dedicate 1-2 hours per week outside of class for homework and preparation.
Homework Assignments: Tailored to reinforce classroom learning, assist in speech preparation, and facilitate review and anticipation of upcoming classes.
Speech Preparation: Emphasis on developing and refining speeches related to sports communication.
Grading Criteria /Policy
In class contribution: 20%, Homework: 20%, Speeches: 30%, Short tests: 30%

This course is designed to immerse students in the specialized language and terminology used in the realm of sports and everyday interactions related to it. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to sport-specific vocabulary, empowering them to engage in discussions about various sports with confidence and clarity. The primary aim is to enhance students' proficiency in English, particularly in contexts pertaining to sports.

The course is structured around interactive and practical learning methods, including:
Group Work: Engaging collaborative activities that promote learning through interaction and shared experiences.
Role-plays: Simulated scenarios that provide students with the opportunity to apply language skills in real-life sports communication contexts.
Speeches: Opportunities for students to articulate their thoughts and demonstrate their command of sports-related vocabulary and concepts in front of the class.
Mini-Lessons: Brief, focused sessions on essential vocabulary and grammar required for each topic, ensuring students are well-prepared for the practical components of the class.
Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Emphasis on the acquisition of sports-specific vocabulary and the essential grammar needed to communicate effectively in sports contexts.
Student-Centered Presentations: Students will select and present a sports-related theme of interest, facilitating peer learning and fostering a deeper engagement with the material.which they are interested.

Students will be expected to do most of the work for their speeches outside of class. The homework will often be designed to help with preparing for speeches, reviewing past classes, or preparing for the next class.本授業の準備学習・復習時間は合わせて 1 時間を標準とします。

Reference materials will be handed out during class. Various learning websites will be used throughout the year. Students will be directed to the website at the time it is to be used.

Students will need to bring a notebook, loose paper, and a writ- ing utensil to every class. Also, students need a Japanese- English dictionary (book or digital). Phone dictionaries will not be allowed.
