授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
大学教育において必要となる総合的な英語力を身につけていくことを目指す。受信面の向上だけではなく、発信面向上にも取り組む。英文を論理的に、時に文化的事情を踏まえ読解し、読解時に得た情報や知識を使い、プレゼンテーションや会話によって発信していくことで、自分の力で英語を駆使できる力を養う。
書かれた様々な英文の様々なトピックが理解できるようになる。
英語の語彙力を広げ、それらを自身の言葉として使うことができるようになる。

教員から学生への情報、知識を提供する。さらに、与えられた情報、知識を使い、英語を使用する。プレゼンテーションを多く用いるため、講義時にも演習時にも受け身の姿勢ではなく、積極的な姿勢で臨み、間違えることを恐れずに最善を尽くすこと。
その上、英文を読みながら英単語や文法を確認し、英語表現や構成を理解することに重点を置く。ライティングの演習問題では、サンプルを参考にしつつ構成に留意して英文を書く。
