授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
スポーツと健康と生活の質をキーワードに、こうしたトピックを扱った最新の英字新聞や英文ニュースの記事を多読することで読解力を強化する。
We will be reading the latest news articles with regard to sports and life style to improve reading comprehension.
1. Students will be instructed to read some news articles related to sports.
2. Students will learn about the various expressions being used in the news ariticles and are encouraged to feel more comfortable while putting them into practice.
3. Students will be able to scan through long newspaper articles with the expectation of writing a summary in a short amount of time.
By the end of the course, students should be able to comprehend the main idea of a newspaper article; be able to write a summary about the article they read as well.
到達目標Goal
①スポーツや健康をテーマとした比較的平易な英文記事を大意を把握できるようになる（Reading for Information）。
②時事英語特有の表現やルールに慣れ、英字新聞や英語ニュースを抵抗なく読みこなせる。
③平易だが長めの記事を短時間で読み、内容を要約できるようになる。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
インターネット上の記事でもいいので、新聞記事（日英両方）をふだんから読む習慣をつけ、徐々に読む対象を広げていくこと。同じトピックを扱った別の新聞記事・ネット上のニュースを読み比べる、そのトピックについて掘り下げて調べてみるなど、追加的な学習を奨励したい。
授業にとどまらず、興味のわいた記事をWeblioや英辞郎などのネット辞書も活用してどんどん読んでみることを勧める。
準備・復習時間は各1時間を標準とする。
Students are encouraged to read newspaper articles to gain various perspectives.
Students may read both English and Japanese versions of the articles to compare. It is also required to read news articles featuring the same subject matter from other news outlets to make comparisons.
Before or after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 1 hour to understand the course content.
