Outline (in English)

The aim of the course is to further develop effective communication skills in English with a particular emphasis on listening and reading by utilizing the skills and vocabulary gained in English II(a). Students deal with more complex and sophisticated content presented in English that is relevant to their university life and subsequent academic work including lectures and academic texts.
[Learning Objectives]
By the end of the course, students should be able to do
thefollowings:
― Acquire fundamentals of English 4 skills; Reading,
Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
― Understand how to connect English texts.
― Develop critical thinking skills.
[Learning Activities Outside of Classroom]
You need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study both preview and review. Be sure to review what has been said during class to prepare yourself for next class.
[Grading Criteria / Policy]
40%: Participation in class activities.
40%: Examinations (Midterm / Final)
20%: Assignments and Quizzes.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

春学期に引き続き、実際のニュースに基づくさまざまなトピックや会話、聞き手や読み手に的確に伝わるように洗練された英文を、実践的な練習問題をとおして学習し、「なんとなくわかる」で終わらずに「明確にわかる」ことを目指す。

到達目標Goal

文法・語彙力の裏付けを確実なものにすることで、先学期よりもスピーディーにリスニング・リーディング、そしてライティングのいずれでも文脈をきちんと把握できるようになる。単語のアクセント、リズムやイントネーションを的確に反映させて、英語として自然な発音や発話ができるようになり、総合的に表現力を高めることができる。

春学期同様に、Warm Upにはじまり、リスニングやリーディングなどの練習問題を解いていく中で、トピックに関連する問題を考え、意見をまとめることで仕上げる。
