Outline (in English)

The aim of the course is to develop effective communication skills in English with a particular emphasis on listening and reading. Students will use English to understand and respond to content that is relevant to their university life and subsequent academic work.
[Learning Objectives]
By the end of the course, students should be able to do thefollowings:
― Acquire fundamentals of English 4 skills; Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
― Understand how to connect English texts.
― Develop critical thinking skills.
[Learning Activities Outside of Classroom]
You need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study both preview and review. Be sure to review what has been said during class to prepare yourself for next class.

40%: Participation in class activities.
40%: Examinations (Midterm / Final).
20%: Assignments and Quizzes.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

実際のニュースに基づくさまざまなトピックや会話、聞き手や読み手に的確に伝わるように洗練された英文を、実践的な練習問題をとおして学習し、「なんとなくわかる」で終わらずに「明確にわかる」ことを目指す。

到達目標Goal

文法・語彙力の裏付けを確実なものにすることにより、リスニング・リーディング・ライティングのいずれでも文脈をきちんと把握できるようになる。単語のアクセント、リズムやイントネーションを的確に反映させて、英語として自然な発音や発話ができるようになり、総合的に表現力を高めることができる。

1ユニットを前半・後半に分けWarm Upでユニットの学習テーマの掘り起こしをし、文脈に即した語彙の用法を確認する。続いて、ニュース本文をディクテーション形式で完成させ、英文として自然な形を音声とライティングの両面から学習する。さらに本文に関する正誤問題によって内容を把握したうえでサマリーを作成することを基本パターンとして行う。
