Outline (in English)

This lecture aims at teaching basic German reading skills. By reading German dialogues and texts the students gain insight into basic grammar and pronunciation. The students will further learn basic facts about the German language and German culture and society.
Learning Objectives: We will learn the perfect tense, past tense and future tense, the modal verbs, comparative and superlative, adjective declension, conjunctions and zu-infinitive. Passive and subjunctive might be additional contents of this course. The students will be able to solve tasks of the Dokken Level 4.
Learning activities outside of classroom: The students are supposed to prepare and repeat the course contents for one hour per week. The main learning activities outside of classroom are repetition of the learnt grammar, memorizing vocabulary and doing homework or tasks, which are assigned by the teacher.
Grading Criteria /Policy: Point average of short tests 70%, course participation 30%. There will be a short test following the completion of every chapter. Therefore no final exam will be held. Course participation includes handing in homework and active participation during classes. If students fail to hand in their homework, points for the participation grade will be deducted. In case a student misses more than four classes without a reason, the student will not earn any credit for completing this course.
