Outline (in English)
This TOEFL test preparation course aims to help students further improve their academic English proficiency and acquire knowledge about academic subjects necessary to take TOEFL ITP and TOEFL iBT tests. The course will also encourage students to work collaboratively with other classmates through in-class activities.
For class preparation and review, there will be required assignments including writing and vocabulary learning outside of class.
Grading will be based on the following criteria: Active Participation (10%); Quizzes & Homework (40%); Final Exam (50%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
This TOEFL test preparation course is designed for students to further improve their academic English proficiency and become familiar with the TOEFL ITP and TOEFL iBT test structure and test items. This course aims to help students through TOEFL practices (1) strengthen their four skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills) as well as vocabulary and grammar skills, and (2) acquire knowledge about academic subjects necessary for the TOEFL test. The course will also encourage students to work collaboratively with other classmates through in-class activities.

By the end of the course, students will:
(a) be able to become familiar with TOEFL test procedure and test items.
(b) be able to gain knowledge about academic subjects needed for TOEFL tests.
(c) be able to learn and use test-taking strategies.
(d) be able to strengthen English proficiency to take TOEFL tests.
(e) be able to articulate their ideas and opinions about different topics, both in speech and writing.
(f) be able to learn about plagiarism and how to avoid it.

Each class will have reading, listening, oral and written activities (individual, pair and group work) as well as a short lecture on the TOEFL test items. Homework will be given regularly. Your attendance and active participation in class is essential. Feedback on class activities and homework will be given in class.

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
Students are required to try TOEFL practices (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), learn vocabulary, and review and prepare for classes.
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。/University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

Grading will be based on the following criteria: Active Participation (10%); Quizzes & Homework (40%); Final Exam (50%).
遅刻は30分までで、それ以降は欠席扱いとなります（遅刻3回で1回の欠席になります）。4回以上欠席した場合は、単位の認定をしません。
