Outline (in English)

This course is designed to increase the students' ability to develop their overall English Language skills while learning about specific topics of TED Talks. Students are expected to improve their reading/listening skills as well as to broaden their understanding of current issues.
*This course will be conduced using Hoppii.

[Overall Objectives]
To help students
・increase vocabulary
・improve their reading/listening comprehension skills
・understand English sentences without translating into Japanese
・identify main ideas
・clarify the structure of a paragraph
・develop global and cross-cultural awareness
・develop creative and critical thinking skills
・effectively express their opinions on current issues

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students are expected to participate in the class fully prepared, having completed the vocabulary preview, listening, reading or writing tasks assigned the previous week.

University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course.


[Grading Criteria /Policy]
Grading criteria for this course will be based on the following: Class participation: 40% (Class activities + Unit quizzes) / assignment : 30 % / Final test: 30%

In principle, no more than 3 absences will be permitted per semester for the student to receive academic credit in the course.
