Outline (in English)

・This course teaches English using newspaper articles, magazine stories, and television programs, etc. The main thematic focus is on political issues, because this is a recommended course for the Law Faculty’s Department of Global Politics. However, other students who are interested in these issues are also welcomed. The aim of this course is to help students improve English reading and listening skills, deepen the knowledge about political and other aspects of modern society in various countries, and acquire the habit of showing a diligent attitude toward more complex written or spoken information while trying to deal with what seems difficult for them to understand by referring to dictionaries or other necessary sources.
・Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the relevant paragraphs from the designated articles. Required study time is at least one hour for each class meeting.
・Final grade will be decided based on term-end examination (60%) and in-class contribution (40%). In principle, four and more absences will not be permitted per semester to receive academic credit for the course. Students 30 minutes or more late will be considered absent. If they will come late three times, they will be considered absent one time.
