Outline (in English)
This is an elective course that will provide students with the opportunity to develop their oral communication skills. The course will develop students' ability for person-to-person communication and presentation skills.
The course will use TED Talks and Academic presentations to compare and contrast the different styles of presentations. Students will be required to make short presentations on a variety of topics including alternative meat products, transport technology and climate change.

到達目標Goal
The goal of this course is to further enhance students' oral communication skills. Students will practice making both formal and informal presentations. Students will practice using punctuation to join and separate ideas and using gestures to emphasize ideas. Students will practice techniques to increase eye contact during online presentations.

授業の進め方と方法Method(s)(学期の途中で変更になる場合には、別途提示します。 /If the Method(s) is changed, we will announce the details of any changes. )
The level of the material should suit students at a pre-intermediate level.
Students will be able to practice and develop their speaking skills using A++, BOOST and Yes/No/Key/Or techniques. Students will practice listening using Shadowing. Students will gain critical thinking skills through comparison of different articles on the same topic. Students will also practice presentation skills including gesture, voice control, eye contact, using notes and timing of presentation.
All assignments will be distributed, submitted and returned to students digitally via Google Classroom. Written assignments will be returned with detailed comments on how students can improve their writing skills.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習・復習・宿題等)Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around 2 hours a week for a two-credit course and around an hour a week for a one-credit course.
Class preparation; There will be some short worksheet assignments designed to test the students' understanding of the ideas presented in the major themes of the course.
Students will be required to work in small groups to prepare a short presentation of a Ballad.
Students will be required to complete short weekly online assignments to practice English and increase their ability.

The English Course "Discussion Book Two" Gary Ireland and Max Woolerton. Available from < store.theenglishcompany.jp >. Look in the カタログ and search for DB2. A CD is not required but you might like it to practice. If you purchase a book second-hand, you will need to pay The English Company ¥890 to access The Study Centre.

In principle, no more than 3 absences are allowed in order to gain a Credit grade.

A device (Laptop or Tablet) that supports word processor software. (Smartphones are only acceptable in unusual situations). Students will be required to know their Hosei Gmail account details and check it every day. Students may use voice recognition software. Google Docs is the required format for submitting written assignments.

We will use Google “Classroom” to send, submit and record all assignments. Students can download "Classroom" from the Google Web site. The Classroom Code for this subject will be advised via the university Hoppii system.
